Federico Agostini was born into a musical family in 1959 at Trieste. He started receiving his first violin lessons from his grandfather, Franco Gulli, at the age of 6 years. After which he studied at the Conservatory of Trieste, Venice and Siena. At the age of 16 he debuted as a soloist under the baton of Carlo Zecchi. From 1981 to 1986 he was a member of the Virtuosi di Roma. From 1986 to 1992 he served as the Concertmaster of the legendary I Musici. In 1987, he joined the Quintetto Fauré di Roma. In 1992 he began a long collaboration with the Franco-American pianist Claude Cymerman, with whom he toured Europe, Japan and the United States. In 2004 he teamed up with Yosuke Kawasaki, James Creitz and Sadao Harada, to create the D'Amici String Quartet. Agostini has performed as a soloist with the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic.
