"The secret of success is never believing you are successful." ~ Jeffrey Archer
A person who thinks that they have not won yet, will continue to fight. But it depends on their mindset, their will, and their determination. This quote is not for you to believe that you are failing or that you belittle your degree of success, but it is to set the stage for you to continue venturing to become more successful than you can ever imagine.
Even if you reach a degree of success that most people may not reach, you can always improve, you can always learn more, you can always do better. No one actually reaches their peak, even when they feel they have. The opportunities for success change, just as quickly as the time changes and technology advances.
Although the ideologies and fundamental lessons of success from the ages can still be applied to this day, we can also add on to it. New resources and tools are created almost everyday to help increase success. And trust, if you believe that you are successful enough to stop producing or learning, eventually you will fall behind, and your success will be short lived.
Take the ego, that you are successful enough out of the equation. Let's take an example of rapper/President of Def Jam Records, Shawn Carter (Jay-Z). He was a former drug dealer, who turned his life around with the advise of his friend, DJ Clark Kent. He invested the money he got from hustling and teamed up with Damon Dash and silent partner Biggs, to form Roc-A-Fella-Records. Even though Shawn Carter became a successful rap artist, he still felt he could be more successful than he was.
Eventually they ventured into a clothing line, and also in to film production with their subsidiary label, State Property. And even with Roc-A-Fella's growing success, Shawn still didn't feel he was as successful as he could be. Then he was offered a position as President of one of the most successful record companies in the industry, Def Jam Records.
He went to talk it over with Damon Dash, who was reluctant to take the offer. Damon felt that they were successful enough and they would be better on their own. But Shawn saw the opportunity of a greater success and he took it, and the two went their separate ways. Now Shawn Carter is part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets (formerly the New Jersey Nets), has built the Barclay Center and brought the Nets to Brooklyn (his hometown), is close friends with The President of the United States, and is worth over half a billion dollars. And that is not including the combined wealth with his wife, Beyonce Knowles, a successful R&B artist and business woman.
As for Damon Dash, because of his contentment with the success he had and his ego that he was successful enough, let's just say, what have you really heard about him lately?
So never believe that you are at your peak of success. You can always grow, and learn, and do more. Even gurus and big corporate CEO's continually learn and develop new ideas and methods, which sustains their successful mind state that they can be more successful. Never stop the motion, keep moving forward and you will see a possibility that you would have thought impossible.
